Mary Did You Know?

Today, I performed a wedding ceremony for a beautiful and talented young lady. She graduated from High School just several months ago and recently found out she was pregnant. I know that "times are a changing" and people are more acceptable to this situation than in years past. While I do not condemn her, for who of us have not messed up, I could not help to think about another young lady that would herself in a somewhat (yet totally different) situation.

Mary, Jesus' mother, became pregnant through the power of the Holy Spirit. Try explaining that to your in-laws, friends and of course Joseph. Matthew 1:19 says, "Because Joseph her husband was faithful to the law, and yet did not want to expose her to public disgrace, he had in mind to divorce her quietly."

No one really grasped the significance of the baby that would become the Savior of the world. How much did Mary comprehend? I am not sure but Luke 2:19 tells us "... pondered them in her heart." No one except, God, knows the future potential that is wrapped up in the birth of a new born baby.

"I knew you before I formed you in your mother’s womb. Before you were born I set you apart..."

I wonder what God has planned for this new mother and her baby.
