Jesus was very clear in the requirement for discipleship: Cross bearing. The Gospel being presented today is one that God is going to make you happy and healthy. It is a Gospel that does not require much from us.
If we DO pick up our cross, we must be aware that not all crosses are alike. We are all in different stages of our journey; therefore our crosses are different. (take up their cross) If we are not careful, we will begin to compare other crosses with ours and begin to question why Bill's cross is not as heavy as ours. So we ask God to make some changes.
God knows the cross you need to bear. He has created it so that you will make heaven your eternal home.
