All of us have expectations. When we get
married we have certain expectations.
When we begin a new job we have certain expectations. When we began attending a new church we have
certain expectations. And when we ask Jesus into our lives, we have
expectations.
Having
expectations is not all bad but when those expectations are not met, it can
cause hurt, frustration, and sometimes anger. This carries over to our relationship
with God. We have the expectation that one of God’s chief tasks is to see that
I am happy. When things do not go as I “expected” the only conclusion is that
God has somehow failed me.
So
how can we keep from allowing “unfulfilled” expectations from negatively
affecting us? When we meet Jesus Christ
Lord of our lives, we surrender every area of our lives to Him and that
includes our expectations. Psalm 62:5
says, “My
soul, wait silently for God alone, for my expectation is from him." This passage of scripture is a clear declaration of confidence in the sovereignty of God.
So, do not be disappointed when your
expectations are not fulfilled. Realize
that god is in control and he will only do what is best for us – “…Will not the Judge of all the earth do right?” Genesis
18:25
