An Unexpectd Visit

Years ago, one of the responsibilities of the clergy was to make regular visits to members of their congregation. These visits were termed “pastoral visits.” The amazing thing is sometimes when I would make such a visit, no one would answer the door, even though I knew they were home. So, I would leave my business card, with a handwritten note on the back, letting them know I had been there.

I admit I am no rocket scientist, but I knew exactly why they refused to come to the door.  It was because I had not notified them that I was going to make a visit and  they wanted to have their house to be clean and in order.

One day someone more important than your pastor is going to make an “unexpected” visit. Jesus Christ said He is coming and we need to be ready. He could return any day. No one knows the day or the hour but He has promised He would return and He will.

So, we should live in such a manner that He does not find us unprepared.
