Who Is On First?

For those who are older, you will remember the comedy team of Abbott and Costello.
They were an American comedy duo whose work in vaudeville and on stage, radio, film and television made them the most popular comedy team during the 1940s and early 1950s. Their routine "Who is on first?"   is considered one of the greatest comedy routines of all time and set the framework for many of their best-known comedy bits. Click here to see video

The question all of us must ask ourselves is "Who is First in my life?" For some it is their job. Others it is pleasure. Still others it is making money. This is probably the most important question we can ask ourselves. Better still, where does God fit into your life? For the majority, God is an "add-on" to our lives. We include Him in the list of the hundred things we must do each day but in truth He is not first. We give Him some attention on Sunday but in reality we do not give Him much consideration through the week.

The best way I have found to determine if God is first in my life is to slow down and ask myself some simple questions:

What do I think about the most? What is the first thing on my mind in the morning and the last thing on my mind at night? What do I pray and talk about the most? What subjects fill my conversations with God and with others? What do I do with my time?

I wonder if we spend thirty minutes praying and thirty minutes reading the Bible every week...but spend ten hours watching TV...then is TV a higher priority than God?

The truth is that we make time for what we really want to do. We all have the same number of hours in a day, and for the most part, we each set our own schedules. It's true that we all have great demands on our time.Everyone of us face things everyday that we have not a clue on how to handle. But...if we keep God first in our life we will find the solution. Are you fretting about something that you have no control over?

How about letting God be first in your life? He is our answer!
