A Mother's Request

Today, we celebrate Mother's day and as in many American pulpits, we heard messages concerning our mothers. But today, our pastor preached a message about a mother that usually gets (possibly wrongfully) criticized. I am referring to the mother in Matthew 20:20-28. It is the story of the mother who asks Jesus if her two sons may sit on the right and left of Jesus when He sits up His Kingdom.

I will not attempt to re-preach the message but I got some new insights on her that I think will help you see her in a new light:

  1. She had a great faith in her Savior.  Basically she was saying that she believed in Jesus' ministry and what He was attempting to do on earth.
  2. She had a great confidence in her sons. She believed that her sons were capable of her request. (How important it is for parents to build a proper self-esteem in their children.)
  3. She had a great ambition for her sons.
             a. She wanted her sons to be used by God.
             b. She wanted her sons to have a close association with Jesus. (Every Christian mother desires her children to
                 be saved)
