admiring the beauty of God's creation. When we find a river that has sufficient current, we do not need to exert much effort, we just drift with the current. You do not need to do anything, just drift.
I have found true in my spiritual life. If I do nothing, if I make no effort on my part, I will drift spiritually. We were created to have fellowship with God but because we possess a fallen nature, we have a tendency to drift. When we drift, we do not drift towards holiness and purity but we drift away from God.
In Robert Robertson wrote the lyrics to "Come Thou Fount" and in that song there is the phrase ""prone to wonder, prone to leave the God I love". There is a well-known story of Robinson, riding a stagecoach with a lady who was deeply engrossed in a hymnbook. Seeking to encourage him, she asked him what he thought of the hymn she was humming. Robinson burst into tears and said, "Madam, I am the poor unhappy man who wrote that hymn many years ago, and I would give a thousand worlds, if I had them, to enjoy the feelings I had then."
I think we forget that WE have a responsibility in maintaining our relationship with God. Phil 2:12 One of the fruit of the Spirit is self-control (discipline).http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Galatians+5:22-24&version=NIV When our thoughts 'drift' where they shouldn't, we must take control of them. 2 Cor. 10:5
I would encourage you today, save your 'drifting' for boating.
